School of Media and Communication (SMC) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is now accepting applications for the positions of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Full Professor in new media studies, new media technologies, journalism, big data, AI and VR technology, film & television, psychology, visual communication, economics and management related to cultural & creative industries. Founded in 1896, SJTU is one of the three oldest universities in China. It has cultivated more than 300,000 outstanding graduates, including former Chinese president Jiang Zemin and "The Father of Chinese Aerospace" Qian Xuesen. Established in 2002, SMC of SJTU consists of three departments, including Journalism & Communication, Film & Television, and Cultural Industry Management. It offers a series of undergraduate, master, and doctoral programs in these fields. Currently, SMC has 400 undergraduates, 200 master students, and 100 doctoral students. Our journalism and communication major ranks top 5 in China, and was in top 100 of the QS World University Rankings by Subject in both 2012 and 2014.
SMC offers two English-taught programs in New Media Studies at Master and Doctoral levels respectively. We are home to 287 international students from 58 countries from around the world, including graduates from famous universities like Princeton University, University of Chicago and University of California-Los Angeles. Therefore, we especially need to recruit new faculty to teach in these international programs; meanwhile, we expect the new faculty to conduct high-quality research in related areas.
Candidates for Assistant Professor should have a Ph.D. degree in journalism, communication, management, new media studies, economics, computer science or related fields by August 15, 2019 from globally renowned universities. Candidates for Associate Professor should not only have a Ph.D. in hand but also have demonstrated a significant influence on the profession by their research and a commitment to teaching excellence at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Candidates for Full Professor should not only have a Ph.D. in hand but also be nationally/internationally recognized for their scholarly achievements while demonstrating a commitment to teaching excellence at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
