Recently, Professor Kuo Liangwen of the School of Media and Communication at Shanghai Jiao Tong University has been elected as the Faculty Ambassador in China for the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR). This election serves as recognition of Professor Kuo's outstanding academic achievements in the field of communication studies and underscores his significant contributions to promoting academic exchanges between China and foreign countries over the years.

Profile of Kuo Liangwen

Kuo Liangwen is a Guangqi Distinguished Professor at the School of Media and Communication, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a Ph.D. in Arts and Media from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia. With over 30 years of extensive teaching experience, his research areas cover various cutting-edge directions such as media sociology, ethnic and national media, digitization of intangible cultural heritage, and participatory communication. He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the international academic journal Emerging Media: Technology, Industry, and Society, which is sponsored by the School, and is dedicated to promoting international dialogue on emerging media research.

Professor Kuo has long been active on international academic stages such as IAMCR and holds important positions in several prominent academic organizations, possessing rich experience in international academic exchanges. As the IAMCR Faculty Ambassador in China, he will continue to actively build bridges between Chinese scholars and the international academic community, facilitating broader and deeper academic dialogue and cooperation, and helping Chinese communication research to have a stronger voice on the international stage.

To further expand the depth and breadth of international academic exchanges, the School of Media and Communication at Shanghai Jiao Tong University will host the inaugural "SJTU-IAMCR Emerging Media Forum" in 2025. The forum will focus on cutting-edge topics in the field of emerging media, bringing together top scholars from around the world to jointly explore the complex interactions and far-reaching impacts among technology, industry, and society, and inject new vitality and momentum into academic research and cross-cultural dialogue.
