School of Media & Communication, Shanghai Jiao Tong University offers international graduate programs with scholarship opportunities.

Founded in 1896, SJTU is one of the three oldest universities in China. It has cultivated more than 300,000 outstanding graduates, including former Chinese president Jiang Zemin and "The Father of Chinese Aerospace" Qian Xuesen. Established in 2002, SMC of SJTU consists of three departments, including Journalism & Communication, Film & Television, and Cultural Industry Management. It offers a series of undergraduate, master, and doctoral programs in these fields.

Our journalism and communication major ranks top 5 in China, and in top 100 of the QS World University Rankings by Subject in 2023. It was rated A+ of China's subjects by the Times Higher Education in 2022, and 2023.

SMC offers two English-taught programs in New Media Studies at Master and Doctoral levels respectively. The number of our international students consistently remains between 200 and 300 throughout the year. They come from over 60 countries, including the U.S., the U.K., Russia, Australia, Malaysia, and so on, covering all five continents of the world. Some international students have even graduated from prestigious universities worldwide, such as the University of Chicago, University College London, the University of Southern California, Johns Hopkins University, and so forth.

December 15, 2024: Deadline for 1st Round of Chinese Government Scholarship applications

February 15, 2025：Deadline for the 2nd (and final) Round of Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) applications

Mar 31, 2025: Deadline for applications for the SGS Scholarship and SJTU Scholarship

May 31, 2025: Deadline for self-supported applications

September 2025: Enrollment

4.  How to Apply

Step 1: Complete the Online Application

Complete and submit an online application at Study@SJTU (http://isc.sjtu.edu.cn/) before the application deadline. If you wish to apply for the scholarship at the same time, please complete the application before the scholarship deadline.

Step 2: Pay the Application Fee

The application fee is RMB 800 (approx. USD 120), non-refundable and non-transferable. Payment must be made in RMB or USD. You can choose online payment or bank transfer in the online application system.
